If you want to up the ante on your golf game, then Bushnell’s Patriot Pack rangefinder can be just the thing you need.
If you are new to the game of golf, chances are you’re not very good at it. The bad news is that no amount of money can allow you to buy a set of clubs that can improve your game without practice. The good news is that you can still regain some form of dignity by getting and using a golf rangefinder such as the Bushnell BN201461P Tour V3 Slope Edition Patriot Pack Golf Rangefinder.
Why is it called the Patriot Pack? Most of the funds generated by the sale of Bushnell’s Patriot Pack range finder are given to the kids and partners of our brave soldiers who were killed or injured fighting on the front lines. The money is handled and distributed by Folds of Honor, a foundation that supports those families and also offers scholarships to the kids of said military personnel.
What to Expect
Besides making you look like a pro golfer out on the green even if you have no idea what you are doing, it can help you measure the distance between that illusive flag and where you are putting from. This is made possible with its PinSeeker feature that comes with JOLT technology. What this means is that it gives short vibrations or vibrates in short bursts to let the golfer know when the PinSeeker is turned on and when the laser locks onto its target (the flag).
The technology was patented by Bushnell and offers pro and novice golfers the approximate distance they can expect to tee off to get as near the hole as possible. The measurements are also based on the decline and incline the hole may be on. In other words, unless you have terrible aim, you will be able to shoot the ball in close proximity to that mocking flag.
Each pack comes with accouterments that can aid you in making that rangefinder last for as long as you need it. This includes a bag tag , complimentary golf tees along with a Bushnell premium carrying case so you can look swanky at the same time.

With its state of the art JOLT and Slope technology, the Bushnell Patriot Pack has set the bar pretty high for all other rangefinders in the market. It has an amazing design, performs like a dream and feels so natural in the hand and pocket that you might even forget it’s there. In other words, it’s the complete package when it comes to a rangefinder that performs as well as it looks.
- Even if you know your way around rangefinders, you may encounter some issues if you do not take care of it properly. For one thing, make sure that the unit is powered down completely before placing it in the bag. To ensure this, turn it off and do not use the rangefinder for at least half a minute before placing it in the bag. The duration will allow it to power down completely but just to confirm, check by looking at the eyepiece. You should not be able to see anything in the display if the unit is off.
- The Patriot Pack features 4 modes and in order to go through them and choose one you will need to press and hold down the Power button on top. The modes are:
- JOLT/Yards – This will be displayed as JLT Y
- Yards – This will be displayed as Y (C)
- JOLT/Meters – This will be displayed as JLT M
- Meters – This will be displayed as M
When you see the mode you need in the eye piece, let go of the POWER button and the unit will select it. If you accidentally choose another one, then all you have to do is wait for the rangefinder to power down and repeat.
How it Works
The Patriot Pack gives off invisible and safe infrared energy pulses to measure yards. It also comprises of an ASIC chip which allows accurate readings each time the unit is used. Distances are measured by the unit when it measures the time it takes for the pulses to reach the target and come back to the rangefinder. You can typically get accurate readings for a yard at most but the max distance for most targets is 700 yards or 640 meters. If there are a lot of reflective surfaces in the path of the rangefinder, that can increase to a 1000 yards or 900+ meters.
In other words, the measurements you get will wary depending on the reflective index of the target along with the weather conditions you are playing in and the distance from the target. Plus, the brighter the color of the target, the longer the range you will get. So, if it’s red, you will get a smaller reading and if it is black, the least reflective color in the spectrum, then you can get a longer range.
Similarly a shinier finish will offer a longer range compared to a dull one and a small target will be more challenging to range than a bigger one. The angle the target is at will also have a large hand in the measurements you get. If you are shooting at a 90 degree angle for instance, then you will have good range so it stands to reason that a steep angle may not provide accurate readings.
However, this is not an issue as such in Bushnell’s Patriot Pack due to the integrated Slope technology. On the other hand, it will still be affected by the weather conditions. If you are teeing off during an overcast day, the better the unit will perform and vice versa.
Using the Bushnell Patriot Pack is simple. All you have to do is look through the eye piece and press down on the POWER button. The LCD display will light up and once it does situate the target located in the smack middle of the display. The object you are targeting should be at least 5 yards away and once the target is acquired, release the button to get the readings.
Please note that the LCD display will only be able to transmit the measurements for 30 seconds at most. Once it disappears you will need to press the button and aim at your target again to get those numbers back. If you don’t have a steady hand, this can get quite frustrating so getting it right the first time would be a good idea.
So, if you want to up the ante on your golf game, then Bushnell BN201461P Tour V3 Slope Edition Patriot Pack Golf Rangefinder rangefinder can be just the thing you need.
